"B J" was a regular when the Burlington Checker Club played at John Kernodle Senior Center in Burlington.  He was a retired plumber/pipe fitter from P. Lorillard Tobacco Co. in Greensboro, NC.  He lived on 417 Somers Ave, Burlington, NC knew and played with the ole timers: Byron Truelove, Jack Tate, Luther Jones, "DH" Moser, and Homer, etc. that played at Ned Bare barber shop across State Theater in Burlington, NC.  Ned Bare, proprietor and barber always had a checker game going on.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Benny Jackson "B.J." Vaughn, 88, died at his residence Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Audine "Andy" Andrews Vaughn and the son of Alfonza Vaughn and Texie Davis Vaughn, both deceased. He retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Co. B.J. was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and actively involved with the Kernodle Senior Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Jackie Baker and Nancy Isley, both of Burlington, and Jane Snider and husband Stuart of China Grove; six grandchildren, Vicky George, Scott Baker, Lee Isley, Bryan Isley, Maggie Baucom and Holly Overcash; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anne Vaughn Allen, of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at 11a.m. by the Rev. Powell Sykes, with the family receiving friends from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Jackie Baker.
